【摘要】:InclusionratingsdoneeithermanuallyusingTestMethodsE45orautomaticallyusingPracticeE1122orE1245areinfluencedbythequalityofspecimenpreparation.Thisguideprovidesexamplesofprovenspecimenpreparationmethodsthatretaininclusionsinpolishedsteelspecimens.Thisguideprovidesaproceduretodetermineifthepreparedspecimensareofsuitablequalityforsubsequentratingofinclusions.Noneofthesemethodsshouldbeconstruedasdefiningorestablishingspecificproceduresorlimitsofacceptabilityforanysteelgrade.1.1Thisguide178coverstwopreparationmethodsforsteelmetallographicspecimensthatwillbeanalyzedfornonmetallicinclusionswithautomaticimageanalysis(AIA)equipment.Thetwomethodsofpreparationareofferedasacceptedmethodsusedtoretainnonmetallicinclusionsinsteel.Thisguidedoesnotlimittheusertothesemethods.1.2AproceduretotestthesuitabilityofthepreparedspecimenforAIAinclusionwork,usingdifferentialinterferencecontrast(DIC),ispresented.
